Non-Targeted Analysis + the Aquity Platform

The first complete picture of what’s in your water. Aquity screens 72,000+ organic compounds from a single 25 mL grab sample and turns raw chemistry into clarity, context, and action.

How it works

A wide net, then a clear picture.

Traditional water testing only detects the compounds it is specifically programmed to find. Non-targeted analysis (NTA) uses advanced mass spectrometry to scan a single 25 mL grab sample for more than 72,000 organic compounds at once — with no pre-programmed target list. It works across water, wastewater, biosolids, foam, FOG, and storm water.

Results are then processed through CEC’s proprietary Aquity platform, which turns raw chemistry into clarity, context, and action — not just a list of compounds, but what they mean for your treatment operations.

The difference

Labs using LC-MS / GC-MS can match the 1–2 week turnaround — but they hand back raw compound data. Aquity is the only platform that identifies contamination sources by geography and industry, turning chemistry into decisions.

Water intelligence

Know what’s in your water.

One 25 mL grab sample becomes a full operational picture.

Know

What entered

72,000+ organic compounds screened from a single 25 mL grab — no target list required.

Know

Where it came from

Every compound attributed to its most likely source industry — and often the facility.

Know

What made it through

Influent-vs-effluent removal efficiency, category by category, into your effluent.

Know

What comes next

High-severity alerts and process-vulnerability ranking, prioritized for action.

What Aquity shows you

Chemistry, translated into operations.

01

Compound intelligence

Classifies every detected compound by function — biocides, flame retardants, foamants, PFAS, pharmaceuticals, agricultural runoff — and links each to treatment risk.

02

Source attribution

Identifies which industries, and often which specific facilities, are discharging problem compounds — ranked by volume and severity.

03

Process vulnerability ranking

Scores every treatment process — nitrification, anaerobic digestion, clarification, membranes — by its exposure to detected compounds.

04

Removal efficiency

Tracks what your plant removes versus what passes through to effluent, broken down by compound class.

05

THOD analysis

Quantifies oxygen-demand load split between residential and industrial sources, with time-series trend tracking.

06

PFAS & regulatory tracking

Flags fluorinated compounds with EPA DTXSID registry links for compliance reporting.

07

High-severity alerts

Real-time alerts for critical compound categories, with signal strength and risk classification.

Working with ITC

Three steps to your first dataset.

ITC connects and deploys; CEC runs the science. Here’s how an engagement starts.

1

Tell us where your system is hurting

Start with the problem — a process upset, a compliance question, an unknown load. We listen first.

2

We pick sample points together

ITC helps you choose where and when to sample for the clearest, most actionable picture.

3

See your data in Aquity

CEC runs the analysis; your results arrive in the Aquity dashboard. You decide what’s next.

Engagements

Built for pilots and programs.

Engagements range from a short pilot to a committed, ongoing municipal program. Talk to us about the right scope for your system.
